Dry Season (May – October)
The dry season is widely regarded as the best time for wildlife viewing in Botswana. As seasonal water sources disappear, animals concentrate around permanent rivers and lagoons, particularly in the Okavango Delta and Linyanti regions. This leads to more consistent and often more dramatic sightings, with predators and prey drawn into closer proximity.
Vegetation becomes thinner, improving visibility, and conditions are ideal for game drives. Early mornings and evenings are cooler, with temperatures gradually rising towards October, when wildlife densities are often at their highest. This is peak safari season and offers some of the most rewarding and reliable game viewing in Africa.
Green Season (November – March)
With the arrival of the rains, Botswana transforms into a lush and vibrant wilderness. The landscape becomes rich with fresh vegetation, dramatic skies, and an abundance of young animals, making this an exceptional time for photography and birding, with migratory species arriving in large numbers.

Flood Season (June – August in the Delta)
