Zakouma National Park
In one of the least known and visited parts of Northern Africa, lies Zakouma. Protected by African Parks, the most successful NGO in Africa, has brought back a wildlife spectacle. It is the closest ‘Big 5’ destination to Europe and with such minimal tourism is a fantastic spot to explore and have an exclusive experience on safari. From huge flocks of Northern Grey Crowned Cranes (one of the best protected areas for them in the world) to lions, and various antelope species, this is a place you do not want to miss.
One of the essences of safari is getting in touch with the natural world and experiencing the splendors of what each day has to offer. This safari is a blend of comfortable rustic beauty and the heart of the wildlife safari. Both properties are owner run by passionate people who are driven to protect the natural world and bring it to their guests in the true way of bygone eras.
Jeffery and McKeith run two camps in the Kafue National Park that are Musekese Camp, their flagship, and Ntemwa Camp on the southern section of the famous Busanga plains. They are intimate tented and grass reed structures, reminiscent of traditional safaris. Their link with conservation makes a part of the contribution with staying at these camps going back into the protection of the wildlife and ecosystems.
Tusk and Mane also offer two camps with the possibility of a sleep out on another site and these camps are on the banks of the beautiful Zambezi River. In the rooms you can open the blinds, so you see a 360-degree view of your surrounds and the possibility of wildlife visitors outside are a common occurrence. A real drive for traditional wildlife experiences that focus on what guests want in an incredibly scenic environment.
The diversity of activities gives this an experience that will offer a range of stimulation. The Kafue National Park is Zambia’s largest and one of Africa’s largest National Parks and the two camps are in two very different ecosystems. From the waters of the Kafue River, walking the grassland of the Eden lagoon and surrounds to the vast majestic beauty of the awestriking Busanga Plains in the north of the park there is a variety to do by boat, on foot or just staying with the vehicle and soaking it all in.
The Lower Zambezi National Park is a part of a special ecosystem on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River, one of the most beautiful of Zambia’s National Parks. Here there is so much to offer rich in large wildlife and small, on the water or on land you can experience many in a variety of different ways. Take to the water by boat, drift through the channels or main river by canoe or walk the stunning Winterthorn (Faidherbia albida) groves and by vehicle watch many a scene unfolds before you.
